Sub-domain:

Sub-domain treats as a separate domain, and we need to build the SEO strategy and implementation individually to improve the domain authority. Also, this approach costs extra money as the site owner need to host and maintain the website separately.

Subdirectory:

The subdirectory sits under the same domain, and this strategy helps to improve the domain authority faster. It is a cost-effective process. From an SEO perspective, subfolders are the best solution for most websites’ structures. Subdirectories provide several advantages:

  • Simple and clear logical structure.
  • All web pages and folders are located under a single domain name.
  • Easy website administration and SEO activation

Moreover, subfolders maintain the weight of external links within one domain name. This is an essential factor determining the website’s ranking in search results.

Recommendations:

  • Use one domain and target different markets with country and language sub-directories. Don’t introduce top-level domain for the individual market as it takes lots of time and money to make it visible and branding. For example, AWS is being promoted under a sub-domain instead of a country-level domain. Below are some examples.
  • Build a dedicated page for company pages () by including the information of their product/services instead of introducing a domain because it will help to improve search visibility, faster product visibility online, and finally it will help to increase domain authority faster
  • Build a great landing page for technical skills such as AI, ML, NLP, etc., by including case studies, which can drive leads from online.
